BE postal codes

Hi Kasper,

I am using the matching analyzer for Belgium postal codes ("BE Postal Code"). It seems like all 4-digit (valid) postal codes end up in the invalid basket.
Can you please look into this.

Thanks,

Emiel

Hi Emiel,

This is probably more a matter of whether the expression is correct (for your situation) than a matter of the matching analyzers functionality (which I'm 99,999% certain is working as it should).

I'm now looking at the postal code of Belgium and I don't have much domain knowledge, except that I can read and understand the expression that makes up the pattern. The expression will validate values beginning with "F-" or "B-" followed by 4-5 digits (only 4 if "B-" is the prefix). To get a feeling of it, I recommend using the "Test pattern" functionality which is available if you select the pattern in the GUI and click the Joystick icon.

You can also try it out (and vote etc.) here: BE Postal code.

Looking at wikipedia for this, there is no mention of the prefixes F and/or B:

Maybe a revision should be made of the BE postal code regex.

I agree. Although Belgium postal codes may be prefixed with "B-" (see also [http://brussels.angloinfo.com/countries/belgium/postcodes.asp], it is also very common to just use the 4 digits. The "F-" prefix is used for French postal codes.

OK I will gladly change it. Is it then just 4 digits? Are there any additional rules that we can try to express in the pattern? Should the prefixes still be optional?
