Update to 2.3 looses data store definitions

Today I upgraded to DataCleaner version 2.3.

I deleted the old DataCleaner folder and copied the new ZIP contents in its place.

The whole process worked fine. Only I note that all data store I defined in DataCleaner have dissapeared...

Can I avoid loosing my definitions for my next update?

Hi Drexler,

One way to upgrade is simply to copy the userpreferences.dat file from your old DC installation directory to your new.

Since userpreferences.dat is a binary file which is not easily readable using third party tools, you can also choose to configure through the conf.xml file. This file is XML based, but is not modified by the application. So you need to register your datastores in this file. For more info and examples, check out the "configuration reference" chapters of the documentation.

Thank you Kasper.

I also wrote this story to make my fellow users aware. Next time, I'll save my userpreferences.dat file before throwing away the old DataCleaner directory.

Maybe this post can help some others...
